To be a Christian is to follow Jesus, and  to follow Jesus is an adventure . To have faith means, first and foremost,  living with a sincere  and  humble search   for God,  seeking to  know and love His will .

He who seeks, finds. And the first reading gives us the key to the search:  God is not in the noise , in the spectacular,  but in the silence, in the small , in the simple. That is why  only the humble  can have faith .

Today  we contemplate Elijah who , threatened with death by Jezebel,  arrives at  Horeb, the mountain of God,  to meet the Lord  , and the Lord passed by. But how did He pass by?

At  Horeb, Elijah  must learn that God is not in the hurricane, the earthquake, or the fire;  he must learn to perceive  God’s whisper  . The  gentle breeze  is  the experience of the  soul’s sweet guest:  the Holy Spirit,  who in every heartbeat whispers that you are loved by God, that the Lord is saving you  today  in your own life, that it is a story of salvation for you.

The true manifestation of God is found in humility : The Lord has  hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children  (cf.  Mt  11:25).

So, if you want to find Jesus, you know where you’ll find him:  in the lowest place .  You go up to heaven by going down.

We must  listen  to the voice of the Lord every day and always be on the path,  letting ourselves be guided by the Holy Spirit  , who is the gentle breeze  that the Lord sends us every day.

To have faith means to live between light and darkness . To live in the light of Christ, but accepting that faith and the life of humankind are a  mystery  that we now only glimpse, without ever fully understanding it.  The darkness will disappear completely in eternal life, when  we see God as He truly is .

As we journey towards eternal life, we are called to  live in  trust  in God. This trust stems from the certainty of his faithfulness :  nothing and no one can separate us from the love of God  (cf.  Rom  8:35-39).

We like to have human certainties in life: it’s a sign of our weakness and our poverty.  To have faith is to trust in God , to abandon ourselves into his arms. We all have our fears and anxieties.

The Lord invites you today not to be afraid, to rest in Him,  to invoke the Holy Spirit, who will help you overcome fear, with the confidence that the trial will not exceed your strength and with the confidence that He is with you.

In the midst of your problems, your crises, your struggles, cry out, like Peter:  Lord ,  save me !  Say to Him, as we have sung in the Psalm:  Show us, Lord, your mercy and grant us your salvation,  for  God proclaims peace to His people and His friends.

Come Holy Spirit!  (cf.  Lk_ 11, 13).
