Choosing Life Is Always Worth It

A few weeks ago, several social and cultural events were organized in my city to   honor the elderly for all they have contributed to society. At some of these events, it was said that this grand tribute aims to go further, to make this week   a tribute to life itself. A tribute that calls upon us all to value and give thanks for the gift of life we ​​have received, a gift that many of our elders embraced and passed on with work, effort, sacrifice, and above all, with love.

However, this news clashes with other reports appearing in many media outlets regarding the   right to abortion . The debate has also resurfaced about whether to include abortion as a right in the European Union’s Constitution, with some arguing that the contrary violates women’s rights and integrity. Many women who have undergone abortions vehemently deny this argument, pointing out that they suffer lasting physical, psychological, and spiritual consequences that are not disclosed to them when they go to an abortion clinic. In Spain, a platform called ”   Afectadas Aborto” (   Abortion Victims) is being launched to help women who have been victims of abortion to pursue legal action against abortion clinics and claim compensation for the harm they have suffered.

In one of those photos we all receive via WhatsApp, the caption reads,  “If this embryo isn’t a baby, you’re not pregnant .” From this statement, one might deduce, “If you’re not pregnant, why do you want an abortion?” Another photo shows a cross-section of a mother’s abdomen and her fetus, highlighting the portion corresponding to the woman’s body and the portion corresponding to the baby’s body, since both have different DNA. In this case, the immediate conclusion is that    the person seeking an abortion isn’t deciding about their own bodybut about the body of their unborn child , who will never see the light of day, nor hear their cries and laughter. The right to decide about one’s own body is one of the slogans feminists use to justify abortion, the killing of a baby, even though this argument has no scientific basis.

It is clear that we live in a hypocritical and selfish society, where personal desires and interests can become a right to end the lives of the most defenseless beings. There is an attempt to legalize the right to eliminate them, for various reasons, without considering other solutions, such as providing support to women in need so they do not become   mothers of a stillborn child . Undoubtedly, many pregnant women need help, and it is the responsibility of governments and society to provide it, since   a child is also a social good . Thank God, the right to life exists in most constitutions or Magna Cartas of different countries, although some try to ignore it or make it compatible with the right to abortion—that is, the right to kill the developing embryo—as if it were a delicate balancing act. Strangely enough, the United Nations is trying to force states to recognize abortion as a right.

Dr.   López Barahona   reminds us that, for both cell biology and classical genetics, the formation of the zygote marks the beginning of a new genetic entity with 46 chromosomes that determine the genome of the new being. The zygote is a cell and, as such, a unit of life. Furthermore, since it contains “alu” sequences (sequences exclusive to the human species),   the zygote is a unit of human life . Cell biology also affirms that   the zygote is the only totipotent cell ; that is, an embryo contains every human being in a unicellular form. These certainties should lead us to protect the life of every human being, and especially the most defenseless beings in this world, babies, who are violently attacked in the womb, a place that should be inviolable, respected, and protected by all. Most people do not doubt the scientific evidence about the origin of life, so abortion could be a consequence of not knowing how to value life in all its greatness and dimension.

The governments of many countries, including our own, seem to turn a blind eye to the double tragedy of abortion. On the one hand, abortion is a tragedy for the woman, because   it carries health and emotional risks that are difficult to overcome , and on the other hand, it violently prevents another human being from coming into the world. Furthermore, the lack of support for childbirth is contrary to our welfare state, to the maintenance of our pensions, and ultimately, to the maintenance of our generational renewal, which is what truly guarantees the continuity of our lives.

Furthermore, society as a whole should feel committed to preventing women struggling to continue their pregnancies from feeling that abortion is their only option. In our country,   Red Madre   reports that nine out of ten pregnant women considering abortion ultimately decide against it and have their children. This is all thanks to the love, support, and assistance they receive, and as a result, the mothers regain inner peace, emotional rest, and a sense of gratitude.

If we don’t take action, the chilling abortion figures in Spain, published in various media outlets, will be repeated. These figures reached   100,000 last year, and in Europe, the appalling number reached 4 million . But these figures of deaths of defenseless beings seem not to move us, while we readily react with outrage and compassion, as is only natural, to the lives cut short by war or other tragic circumstances, even though their numbers are lower. Some experts point out that the babies aborted annually could be used to reduce adoption lists and waiting times.

Another issue that has been debated in the media is whether people can pray near abortion clinics. I don’t believe that in a public space, it’s acceptable to prohibit someone from stopping to pray with others; it doesn’t harm anyone. Or could it be that they’re afraid their presence will awaken the conscience of those who go to these clinics, or even those who don’t? On this point, an article has been published in various newspapers, written by  Emma Riverola , arguing against people praying peacefully near abortion clinics. She seems to think that those who pray judge those who have abortions as insensitive, weak, and sinful. Furthermore, Emma opposes  pro-life groups  providing information about possible alternatives to abortion to people who go to abortion clinics, or encouraging them to reflect on what they are about to do, because she believes they are being coerced. Regarding this last point, Ana Iris Simón stated in a discussion that such coercion does not exist, since not the slightest violence is exerted upon them. At this point, it is worth recalling that the Ministry of Equality decreed   abortion without due process   , opposing the pregnant woman’s right to hear her baby’s heartbeat.

Abortion without due consideration is an   insult to reason and human freedom , but it is characteristic of a society subjected to the tyranny of  woke culture,  which opposes the search for truth and the exercise of freedom, and promotes a single way of thinking. This kind of abortion without reflection is unbecoming of human beings, since most people, before making important decisions, such as those that affect our health, seek   information   to help them make the best possible choice.

Another of the many press articles on this topic, written by Natalia, advocates for allowing prayer near abortion clinics. She states:  “Thank you for wanting to be my voice, but let me ask you to continue praying, not only for me, but for so many other women who, upon leaving the clinic after an abortion, have cried out, ‘Give me back my child!’ cries that have been stifled with tranquilizers that only last so long, because the pain never disappears .” There are also calls to make peaceful prayer near abortion clinics a crime, but for now, legal experts believe this situation cannot be addressed under the recent reform of the Penal Code, which prohibits “annoying, intimidating, and offensive acts.”

We must let the cries of newborns fill our lives and with them we can shout loudly, LONG LIVE LIFE!
