Among the first issues addressed was the advancement of artificial intelligence. In response to the recent technological slowdown announced by major companies in the sector, the Pope quipped, “Perhaps they’re starting to read your encyclical?” He explained that the Vatican commission maintains an ongoing dialogue with technology leaders, convinced that there is genuine openness to ensuring that AI acts as a tool at the service of humanity rather than destroying it.

Current geopolitical and social issues also occupied a central place. The Pope gave a knowing nod to the American press following recent political tensions at the White House, emphasizing the need for freedom of information everywhere. Speaking with Spanish correspondents, he recalled with concern the migration crisis experienced last summer in Ceuta, formally describing it as a “humanitarian crisis” with deep roots that demands structural solutions. He also took the opportunity to apologize for a logistical incident beyond his control that prevented some members of the press from returning with him on his previous trip to Spain.

The tone of the conversation alternated between the gravity of global conflicts and touches of very personal humor.
