This is my beloved Son: Listen to him: Commentary by Fr. Jorge Miró

Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the  Gospel for Sunday, March 1, 2026,  entitled, “This is my beloved Son: Listen to him.”

***

Today the Gospel speaks to us of  the Transfiguration of the Lord:   before reaching the drama of the Passion,  Jesus Christ appears  transfigured, glorious , before his disciples, so that they are not frightened or scandalized by the mystery of the cross.

The Transfiguration is a  glorious announcement and anticipation of the Lord’s Resurrection .

With this, the Word of God wants  to encourage you on your journey toward eternal life . It wants to remind you that  we are citizens of heaven.  You are not an  existential wanderer  , weary and burdened, tired of going around in circles, but a  pilgrim  walking alongside other pilgrims toward heaven. Saint Paul reminded us of this:  God saved us and called us to a holy life.

The light of eternal life  transfigures the cross,  transforming it from sorrowful to  glorious.  And that is why Jesus Christ reminds you that  it is of no use to gain the whole world if you lose your soul.  Everything would be in vain if you do not attain eternal life.

The first reading also reminded us of this, with the  covenant God makes with Abraham : “Leave your land.” We are  called to go out of ourselves . We cannot live in existential narcissism, we cannot live an individualistic life, closed in on ourselves, as the world so often proposes. God did not create us for solitude, but for  relationship , for  communion , for  self-giving .

And  we will find fulfillment as human beings , not by living closed in on ourselves, contemplating only ourselves, but  by going out of ourselves , going out  to connect with God  and going out  to connect with our brothers and sisters.  And that is why  we are pilgrims , but not solitary pilgrims, rather pilgrims walking alongside other brothers and sisters,  alongside other pilgrims , experiencing the presence of the Lord in our lives and walking toward the goal of heaven.

To be a Christian is to live each day the experience of ascending Mount Tabor and experiencing everything with the Lord . And when we experience everything with the Lord, He makes it new through the gift of the Holy Spirit. That is why we are called to live that intimacy in daily life, to live our dreams with the Lord, our anxieties with the Lord, our fears with the Lord, our successes with the Lord, our failures with the Lord—  to experience everything with the Lord . And then what the Psalm says will also become a reality in our lives:  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” Look to him and be radiant.

But for that we need to live what we have heard in the Gospel, this voice from the cloud that said:  This is my Chosen Son, listen to him.

Who do you listen to each day in order to live?  Do you listen to the voice of your heart wounded by original sin? Do you listen to the voice of the world, or do you listen to the voice of the Lord?

That’s the key.  Like Abraham: leave your land!  Leave yourself!  And let yourself be led by the Lord: to the land I will show you.

Are you ready to seriously follow this path, to live this adventure?  It’s worth it! Dare to try! You won’t be disappointed! You too, if you believe, if you follow Jesus Christ on the path of the cross, will see the glory of God.

Come, Holy Spirit!
