The Sorrow of the Return from Egypt and the Joy of Life in Nazareth
Sixth Sunday of Saint Joseph
On the sixth Sunday, we meditate on the pain of fearing to return to Judea because of Archelaus, son of Herod, receiving a warning in a dream (Mt 2:22).
Joy arises from settling in Nazareth, fulfilling the prophecy and living in family union with Jesus and Mary (Mt 2:23; Lk 2:39).
Tradition highlights the hidden life in Nazareth as a model of holiness in the ordinary, with Saint Joseph as a paternal protector, enjoying divine company in the home.
This reflection invites us to live in peace of conscience, united with Jesus and Mary.
Prayer
Oh angelic Guardian of Jesus and Mary, glorious Saint Joseph! You suffered greatly fearing the tyrant Archelaus; but you were consoled by hearing the angel and living in Nazareth with Jesus and Mary.
Through this pain and this joy, grant that, free from all sinful fear, we may enjoy the peace of conscience, live securely with Jesus and Mary, and die assisted by them.
Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be
