The Sacred Heart of Jesus
A burning heart that guides and protects our path to happiness
Every human being is a project of happiness designed by God. In each one, He sees a flower. Each one is a hope.
Every human person is unique and unrepeatable. It is as if, once a figurine is finished, the mold is broken. No one is like you! That’s how you are in the eyes of God!
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a burning heart. It is our nest. His fatherly heart looks upon us with great love. We know that we are deeply loved by Him. He loves us more than the most loving mother in the world. He loves us personally as children, no matter who we are. He loves us more than anyone. He wants our own good more than we want our own well-being. What joy!
This assures us of the great goodness of His plans for us. For each human person, He has reserved a precious poem that only He can sing. It is a personal path leading to heaven—strewn with many interrelated and very fruitful graces—that no other man can travel.
God, in designing the routes along which we must sing and dance, accompanied by the birds and the perfume of the flowers, has shown himself great, worthy of being acclaimed with triumphant trumpets. Walking through this furrow is the most wonderful thing that can happen to one, because this path is traced by the infinite and personal love of God, by the affection of the Most Holy Heart of Jesus, by his infinite wisdom and goodness, by his omniscience, and by his infinite and eternal, foresightful and protective power.
However, at times, since such a great journey is mysterious, other paths may tempt us, making it seem that by following them we can reap greater rewards.
In reality, God knows best! It is always wrong to exchange the paths of divine designs for human plans, even when the latter may seem better to us. For true greatness lies in the adventure and journey of love for Christ, not in doing things. Such a good heart, that of Christ, and not a thing, is the only thing that makes us truly and fully happy. He is our good. Nothing is as beautiful as pleasing God.
The Most Sacred Heart of Christ is a crucified heart. The disciple is not greater than the teacher! Following Christ entails an encounter with the cross. Because of fidelity and love for Christ, for example, misunderstandings, setbacks, persecutions, etc., may abound. However, this is not a disgrace, but a great honor and preciousness. Receiving the graces of the blessings of the cross is a stupendous and magnificent thing. Everything is for the good of those who love God.
Whoever lovingly embraces the cross embraces the divine crucified One, and nothing is better than this. The greatest works are nothing in comparison to this: lovingly standing side by side with the beauty of Christ on the cross.
We should not be surprised that there are thorns where there is great rose blossom, for there are no roses without thorns. Nor should we be surprised that, despite so many magnificent roses, we do not see them, for as the poet said: the charm of roses is that, being so beautiful, they do not know they are.
Pruning is good for the plants, even if it is mysterious or difficult for us to understand.
Thus, all history is traversed by a long trail of great Cyrenians, bearers of the luminous cross—in the silence of time—and who are the best of Christ’s Church, the saints, principal collaborators in the work of redemption of the adorable Savior.
There shine the rubies of the martyrs, the iron fortitude of the holy confessors, the snow-white lilies of the holy virgins, the elegance of parents who saintly devote themselves to their children, the wonder of those who have become saints in ordinary life, etc.
Throughout the centuries, waves of people have learned in the sweet Heart of Christ to return forgiveness and goodness for the evil they receive, and who repay the lack of love with the sowing of light, joy, and love. They are joyful, shining in the eyes of God, not in the eyes of the world.
Love for God, fidelity, and obedience surpass all other human work. That is the work of God! It is far greater than the work of human beings. In truth, a little pure gold shines more than very tall towers of mud. The importance of an artist is not measured by the colossal size of his sculptures, but by the greatness of his heart.
The Heart of Christ is a heart of gold that has been deeply wounded. Often, despite God’s love for us, we respond with the lack of love for our sins, which wound Him. Love is not loved! Hence, the need to make amends. With small tears, in which the light shines, let us wash away the stains of sin. On the scale, the scale of sin must be counterbalanced with the scale of love for God. We must rise and rise again.
For the offended Lord, we must give Him so many little flowers of love here on earth, and an eternal love in heaven that satisfies every desire and every appetite, and fills the heart with the greatest happiness.
