The Church in Peru Seeks to Strengthen the Synodal Path to 2028

With the upcoming synodal assembly of diocesan teams

The Church in Peru Seeks to Strengthen the Synodal Path to 2028

From the heart of Lima, outwards, the Church of the “Thrice-Crowned City” journeys, following in the footsteps of its second bishop, Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo, as the 300th anniversary of his canonization is commemorated.

And Peru, “Holy Land,” as recognized by Pope Francis, is preparing its synodal teams for the implementation phase of the Synod on Synodality.

Convened by the national commission of the synod of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, the delegates of the diocesan teams of the 46 ecclesiastical jurisdictions are preparing to experience the second face-to-face assembly of synodal teams in the capital of Peru.

In this way, the commitment of local communities to the synodal pastoral renewal process is consolidated.  “This assembly constitutes a space for communion, discernment, and planning to strengthen a national roadmap that builds upon the work already done and revalues its pastoral diversity and richness.”

This was explained by the Bishop of Chiclayo and President of the National Synod Commission, Monsignor Edinson Farfán Córdova, during the virtual meeting of diocesan delegates held in November 2025. He indicated that synodality requires a constant openness to be guided by the Holy Spirit, as well as a firm commitment to walk together in communion.

Let us walk together towards the synodal path 2028

This meeting will serve to listen to the grassroots, since all national planning must originate from listening to diocesan teams, in accordance with the synodal spirit that Pope Francis has always promoted. That is why the synodal path is based on listening, discernment, and action.

This event, which will bring together delegates from the 46 ecclesiastical jurisdictions to work together on the 2028 synodal route, will take place on February 27 and 28 and March 1.

This is how the Church in Peru listens, discerns, and identifies the fruits that strengthen it and the challenges that require attention. Hope for this new ecclesial path remains alive in Peruvian lands.
