The Christ who doesn’t take away the pain… but accompanies it and transforms you forever
‘My Broken Christ’ comes to Madrid: the theatrical and musical experience no one should miss
Are you looking for a show that you not only see, but truly experience? One that stirs you deeply, makes you look into the mirror of your soul, and leaves you with a heart full of hope? Get ready: on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., the Auditorium of the San Agustín School (C/ Padre Damián, 18) hosts ‘My Broken Christ’ , a fusion of theater and music hailed as ” the show that is moving Madrid .”
Inspired by the classic book by Jesuit Ramón Cué and the powerful adaptation by Mexican actor Alberto Mayagoitia, this unique performance tells the story of a priest’s obsession with restoring a mutilated Christ figure he buys from an antique dealer in Seville. What begins as an attempt to “fix” the image becomes an intimate, profound, and unfiltered dialogue between the priest and Christ himself. This exchange dismantles all human logic, enters your soul unbidden, and answers the questions that truly matter: suffering, faith, imperfect life, and daily self-sacrifice.
There are no easy answers or sugarcoating here. Here, the broken Christ doesn’t take away the pain , but accompanies it, dwells with it, and gives it meaning. And that, precisely, is what is leaving people speechless.
The testimonies say it all:
- Isidro Catela , university professor and former director of Communications for the Episcopal Conference: “ It left me deeply moved. It is a Christ that one cannot look at without looking at oneself. ”
- María Moya , a 19-year-old student: “ Brutal. A real boost of faith and hope. ”
- José Manuel García-Plaza , priest of Chinchón: “ Pure beauty. After seeing it, I left wanting to be more of a priest. ”
It is a work for everyone : believers who want to renew their faith, seekers who yearn for meaning, open-hearted skeptics, young and old. It is especially moving for those who serve Christ: priests, seminarians, and consecrated persons will find in it a true tribute to their daily dedication, with all its struggles and all its beauty.
The staging is a true gem: the lead actor’s powerful performance, combined with musical interludes at key moments, transforms each show into an unforgettable, moving, and transformative experience. After its successful run in Chinchón, it arrives in Madrid with a revamped set design and musical arrangement, aiming for an even deeper impact.
And the best part: attending is doing good . Tickets cost only €10 and €15 , and all proceeds go directly to the Augustinian Network Foundation for Education and Development (REDA) , of the Order of Saint Augustine in Spain. Culture with a cause!
