Teenage Alcoholism: A Wound That Won’t Heal
It's not just a drink: alcohol is stealing our children's future
There is a silent enemy advancing in our classrooms and homes, extinguishing the dreams and hopes of an entire generation: teenage alcoholism. Every drink leaves a wound that never heals.
Latin America is among the regions of the world with the highest rates of early alcohol consumption. In Colombia, 69% of adolescents between 12 and 18 years old have tried alcohol at some point, and in most cases, they do so in the presence of adults. Drinking at home, normalized from an early age, becomes a dangerous, silent school of alcohol abuse.
Alcohol severely affects the developing brain, interfering with memory, judgment, and impulse control. Starting to drink before the age of 14 increases the risk of developing dependence in adulthood tenfold.
This video, created by Daniel Tobón of LaFamilia.info , invites us to reflect on the urgent need to act: to speak openly, to set loving boundaries, and to lead by example with our own consumption habits. Because true prevention doesn’t begin at school, but at home.
A call to action
Early alcohol consumption is not a game: it’s a fall without a safety net. Every year we delay that first drink significantly reduces the risk of addiction. Supporting, listening, and leading by example can make the difference between a life cut short and a future full of hope.
