The Vatican today announced papal appointments in Poland and the Holy see.

Resignation of auxiliary bishop of Rzeszów, Poland

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Rzeszów, Poland, presented by Bishop Edward Eugeniusz Białogłowski.

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Gniezno, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Gniezno, Poland, the Reverend Radosław Orchowicz, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now parish priest of Saint Joseph the Worker, assigning him the titular see of Surista.

Msgr. Radosław Orchowicz was born on 21 January 1970 in Wysoka in the metropolitan archdiocese of Gniezno. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology at the Primatial Seminary of Gniezno, he was ordained a priest on 21 May 1994.

After priestly ordination, he served as vicar in two parishes: the Holy Trinity in Strzelno (1994-1999) and Saint Lawrence in Gniezno (1999-20039. In 2003 he was appointed as personal secretary to the then-auxiliary Bishop Wojciech Polak and diocesan head of youth pastoral care.

From 1 September 2010, he served as parish priest of Saint Joseph in Inowrocław and from 7 November 2011, prison chaplain. In 2011 he was awarded a doctorate in theology from the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznán.

From 1 May 2016, he became vice dean of Inowrocław. Since 2013 he has been a member of the diocesan commission for the Formation of the Clergy, and since 2018, of the Council for Economic Affairs of the major seminary of Gniezno.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Giuseppe Sciacca, titular of Fondi and until now secretary of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, as president of the Labour Office of the Apostolic See.

Appointment of secretary of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Andrea Ripa, until now under-secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy, as secretary of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, assigning him the titular see of Cerveteri.

Msgr. Andrea Ripa was born in Rimini on 5 January 1972. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Rimini on 25 September 2004.

He was awarded a degree in classical letters from the Carlo Bo University of Urbino, a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University, and a diploma as attorney of the Roman Rota.

He has held various pastoral offices: in some parish communities of Rimini and as rector of the Church of San Giovanni Battista dei Cavalieri di Rodi, Rome; lecturer in canon law at the Higher Alberti Marvelli Institute of Religious Sciences, the faculty of theology of Lugano, Switzerland, and the Pontifical Lateran University; defender of the bond, judge and adjunct judicial vicar at the Flaminio Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal. Since 2013 he has been an official in the Congregation for the Clergy, where from 12 September 2017 to the present he has served as under-secretary.
