Leo XIV: The Pope of Unity

A new pontificate marked by cohesion between religions, cultures, and humanity

Leo XIV: The Pope of Unity

I like to give each pope an adjective. I called John Paul I the Pope of Joy. We’ve called John Paul II the Pope of Solidaritythe Pope of Human Rights. Benedict XVI, clearly, the Pope of Reason: reason that purifies faith, faith that purifies reason. And our beloved Pope Francis, the Pope of Mercy, is always with the poor.

What will this new pope’s name be?  Leo XIV. For me, Leo XIV is the pope of unity. From day one, it’s been clear:

  • The Pope of unity among Catholics who are disunited.

  • The Pope of unity with Protestants and Orthodox Christians, that is, the Pope of ecumenism.

  • The Pope of unity with other religions, without falling into syncretism.

  • And, most importantly, the pope of humanity.

Hence, the importance of global law: a law that will unite all of humanity and not just an international law between nations.
