Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Commentary by Fr. Jorge Miró
Sunday, May 31, 2026
Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the Gospel of Sunday, May 31, 2026, entitled, “Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit”
***
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity . Today’s celebration reminds us that God is a mystery , a mystery that eludes us, that we cannot comprehend with our reason, and to which we must make access, a mystery that we must live through faith and love .
Thanks to the Holy Spirit , who helps us understand the words of Jesus and guides us to the complete truth, we can know the intimacy of God himself , discovering that he is not solitude, but communion.
In the mystery of God, it is essential that you discover that God loves you just as you are. God loves you freely : without demanding anything of you. God loves you more than anyone else : even to the point of giving his life. God loves you faithfully ; he never stops loving you.
Everything God says, teaches, and commands is not meant to annoy you, but to show you the path that leads to happiness and eternal life. God wants you to be happy! And He wants you to be happy not just for a little while… but for all eternity!
He wants you to have life, and life in abundance! This is the key to understanding the whole Christian life! : Keep the precepts and commandments that I prescribe for you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the Lord your God is giving you forever (cf. Dt 4:39-40).
The Gospel has also reminded us of this: God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Today’s feast is an invitation to enter into the mystery of God’s love. To let yourself be loved by Him and to live your faith as a love story with God. To let Him embrace you, enlighten you , reveal Himself to you, and bestow upon you the Holy Spirit so that you may grow in holiness. It is an invitation to empty yourself and be filled with God : in this way you will be happy, you will live authentically as a person, and your life will have true meaning.
It is an invitation for you to discover that faith is not a theory that is known, but a life that is enjoyed : You have not received a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but a spirit of adoption, by which we cry out, “Abba!” (Father).
It’s about being able to live each day as a love story and a story of salvation that God is creating with you . It’s about discovering that you are not alone, that the Lord is with you every day until the end of the world .
It is discovering that life is not a “sorrowful solitude” (cf. Dt 32), but a vocation , a constant call from God who loves you and invites you to enjoy this love story. A call from God that invites you not to remain an existential “vagrant,” but to find joy in being a pilgrim who, hand in hand with the Lord, walks toward the goal of eternal life.
And, amazed by the mystery of God’s love, this feast is an invitation to live in praise , as we have sung in the Psalm: O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! An invitation to be able to say every day: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit!
Let yourself be loved by God!
