Inherited faith, the kind practiced out of habit or mere traditional upbringing, often crumbles at the first blow of reality.  Álvaro Quesada  —creator of the reflection project ”  Maybe It Will Help You “—knows this well, having gone from a comfortable, unquestioning existence during his adolescence to facing the abyss of his own shortcomings in his second year of university.

In a candid conversation on  Rebeldes Podcast  with  Father Ignacio  and  Brother Marcos , the 22-year-old communicator addresses without filters the existential leap of abandoning a “faith à la carte” to embrace a Truth capable of structuring one’s own identity, masculinity, and Meaning with a capital M.

The “click” of the Theology of the Body

“The cross does not wound; the cross may weigh heavily, but it does not hurt you. When a person is spoken to about beauty, goodness, truth, and mercy, something clicks in their heart. That is what the Theology of the Body managed to do in mine.”

For Quesada, the crucial turning point came not from a dramatic mystical event, but from the direct impact of the doctrine on the incarnate person. Citing the insight of Saint John Paul II, he recalls how the mystery of the Incarnation introduces the human body “through the grand entrance of theology.”

Faced with the temptation to repress desire or to understand Church law as a repressive straitjacket, Álvaro is emphatic:  “Catholic theology tells us: repress nothing, that is heresy .” True conversion does not consist of mutilating affections or erasing one’s own humanity, but rather in channeling one’s deepest desires toward their transcendent origin and destiny.

The trap of comfort and exposure on social media

One of the most pointed points of the dialogue addresses the temptation of appearances within the digital ecosystem. Faced with the growth of her audience and media visibility, Quesada confesses to experiencing the exposure not as a trophy, but as a demanding responsibility:

• Avoiding reverse posturing:  It reveals having felt the temptation to fake a false image or feign visual poverty (such as deliberately going out in sloppy clothes) just to project an image of prefabricated simplicity to followers.
• Authenticity and vocation:  To assume that one’s own history —with its lights, privileges and absences— must be put at the service of the message without embellishment.
• Proportional demand:  Remember the evangelical maxim that “to whom much is given, much will be required.”

Four pillars for a mature faith

When asked about the keys to preventing a contemporary young person from wasting their energy on fleeting enthusiasms and instead establishing a serious Christian life, Álvaro summarizes the experience in four fundamental pillars:

1. Spiritual accompaniment and direction:  Having “older brothers in the faith” or priests who help to contrast the states of the soul and avoid isolation or self-deception.
2. Solid formation:  Rooting oneself in tradition and doctrine to overcome vague ideas about the Church and resist the onslaught of sentimentality.
3. Active sacramental life:  Frequently turning to grace to sustain us through the falls of our own human frailty.
4. Real community and integration:  Maintain a network of friends who share the same values ​​without isolating him from society or closing himself off to dialogue with people from other environments.

Quesada’s testimony underlines that encountering faith does not require waiting for collapse, but rather daring to formulate the decisive questions: discovering who one truly is in order to then learn to give oneself to others.
