Clarification about the construction of a hermitage in San Sebastián de Garabandal
Communication from the Servants of the Home of the Mother
It is important to note that the Servants of the Home of the Mother have not presented any project for the construction of a hermitage in San Sebastián de Garabandal. This project has been presented by a national civil foundation established in 1983. It involves the construction of a hermitage as a private initiative on land owned by said foundation, intended for the private devotion of the faithful and not for worship. For this type of building, it is not necessary to request permission from the ecclesiastical authority. Some media outlets recognize this in the body of their articles, although their sensational headlines claim otherwise.
The Servants of the Home of the Mother are a Public Association of the Faithful approved in 1994, to be erected as an institute of consecrated life, and are in full communion with the Church and its pastors.
Within the Church, the Holy Spirit has given rise to different forms of consecration that are regulated according to the norm of law proper to him. The Servants of the Home of the Mother, by their statutes approved by the Church, wear a habit as a sign of their consecration.
At all times, the Servants of the Home of the Mother have obeyed the provisions of their pastors, also in the Diocese of Santander. They are perfectly integrated into the Catholic Church they have communities not only in eight Spanish dioceses, but also outside our borders: three in Ireland, four in Ecuador, two in Italy, and one in the USA.
