December 8, Second Sunday of Advent
Gospel Reflection
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. In the Gospel of Luke 1:26-38, the angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she has been chosen to be the mother of Jesus. Mary, in her humility and obedience, responds: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to your word.”
The purpose for the day
Today, reflect on Mary’s obedience and humility. Take time to meditate on her fiat, her “yes” to God, and ask her for the grace to be docile to God’s will in your life.
How to Live Christmas as a Family
As a family, talk about Mary’s example and how each of you can say “yes” to God in your life. You can pray the Rosary together, meditating on the joyful mysteries and thanking God for the gift of Mary.
Prayer for the day
“Lord Jesus, thank you for the gift of your Mother, the Virgin Mary. Help me to follow her example of humility and obedience, and to say ‘yes’ to your will in my life. Bless my family and allow us to walk together in this season of Advent, guided by the love and intercession of Mary. Amen.”
