Two days before his birthday, Pope Francis will visit Ajaccio on 15 December 2024, to celebrate the closing of the Congress “Popular Religiosity in the Mediterranean”.

He is the first Pope to visit the fourth-largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily, Sardinia and Cyprus.

The visit announced in recent days by the bishop of the capital Ajaccio, Cardinal François-Xavier Bustillo, was confirmed today by the director of the Vatican Press Office, Matteo Bruni.
