Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the  Gospel for Sunday, March 8, 2026,  entitled, “A fountain of water springing up to eternal life”

***

One of the  problems  of modern man is  existential dissatisfaction:  sometimes we live dissatisfied, frustrated, empty, without quite finding the meaning of life, without joy, without direction… And in a paradoxical way, because  we have everything , but  nothing quite fills us

And we experience this dissatisfaction  because sometimes we place our hearts in things that can never truly fill them . Sometimes we seek life in idols: money, power, pleasure, success…

But it’s nothing more than an  illusion.  Idols only increase our thirst . The passion for material things draws us into the dynamic of  selfishness,  which leads only to emptiness and dissatisfaction.

The  Word of God  that we proclaim today illuminates  this reality  of humanity and  gives us the key to happinessHuman beings have  an enormous thirst, an  immense desire for happiness.  And that thirst can only be quenched in one way:  only God can fill our hearts and give us true happiness .

As Saint Augustine said, ” You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts will be restless until they rest in you . “

The path to finding happiness and meaning in life is to have God in your heart, to be reconciled with Him, to have Him as Lord of your life.  Let your life be centered on Him, and you will have within you a  wellspring  that will quench your thirst.  You will have within you the living water of God’s grace, of the Holy Spirit, which will help you find meaning in life and attain true happiness,  because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

When the Samaritan woman receives the gift of the Holy Spirit , she has living water;  her life is made new.  She has light to see her story, a story that is chaotic, but which she will be able to see with mercy, with peace, with forgiveness. She can see how Jesus doesn’t accuse her, but saves her, which is different. Because the Holy Spirit makes all things new, and with living water she will begin a new life. She will discover where the water truly is that can quench the deep thirst in her heart.

When you let Jesus Christ reign in your life , in your heart… you will be able to say, like Jesus, “ My food is to do the will of the Father,”  and you will have a life full of meaning. You will not  live  like a wanderer,  but  like  a pilgrim.

That is why  the Word today invites you to this conversionMay you listen today to the voice of the Lord:  “Do not harden your hearts.”

How is your life?  Are you happy? Is God in your heart?  What is at the center of your life? Do you want to be happy? Let the Lord fill your heart,  live united to God, and the desert of your life will be transformed into a garden,  because you will see Jesus Christ in the midst of your life. You will see how the Holy Spirit grants you the ability to taste God’s love in the midst of your everyday life, in the midst of the struggles and difficulties of each day. For  is the Lord among us or not?

Come, Holy Spirit!
