World Premiere of “The Heart of Sister Lucia” on the Centenary of the Apparition in Pontevedra

Free premiere on YouTube of the short film “The Heart of Sister Lucia”, coinciding with the first centenary of the apparition of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to Sister Lucia dos Santos in Pontevedra, on December 10, 1925.

The project, promoted by HM Television, was born from the IV Media Course for young people held last summer and has had the direct supervision of the Carmel of Coimbra and Sister Angela Coelho, doctor, religious of the Alliance of Saint Mary and postulator of the causes of canonization of Francisco and Jacinta Marto and, currently, also of Sister Lucia.

A preview filled with emotion

On November 29th, the Archbishop’s Palace in Alcalá de Henares hosted the premiere of the short film before a packed auditorium. Among those present was Dr. Branca Pereira Azevedo Paul, who for fifteen years was Sister Lucia’s personal physician at the Carmelite convent in Coimbra until the visionary’s death on February 13, 2005.

Visibly moved, Dr. Branca shared with those present a confession that summarized her relationship with the shepherdess of Fatima: “I was the doctor of Sister Lucia’s body, but she was the doctor of my soul.”

The doctor recounted how, after years of spiritual estrangement absorbed by her career and cancer research, a seemingly chance encounter changed her life: Dr. Miguel, Sister Lucia’s physician until then, asked her to take on his care because he himself was gravely ill. That request awakened childhood memories in her, of being sick in bed, clutching pictures of shepherds. “Of course, of course I want to,” she replied through tears. “From that moment on, my conversion began,” she acknowledged.

Fifteen years of visits to the Carmelite convent transformed her life and made her one of the main witnesses in the cause of canonization of Sister Lucia.

One hundred years since Pontevedra’s petition

The short film recreates Sister Lucia’s last hours in her cell in Coimbra, from where the visionary reviews in flashback the key moments of her mission: the apparitions of 1917 in Cova da Iria with Francisco and Jacinta, the Virgin’s promise to return, and the apparition of December 10, 1925, in Pontevedra – when Mary, with the Child Jesus, asked her for the reparative devotion of the first five Saturdays and announced the future request for the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart.

Eight years after the main apparitions of Fatima and with Lucia, now as Sister Dorothea in Spain, that vision of 1925 opened the second great stage of the Marian message, whose spiritual transcendence is testified to in this short film.

How to watch the premiere

Through HM Television’s YouTube channel, and at the end of this article. Access is completely free and requires no subscription.

On the short film’s official website, you can download a comprehensive dossier with additional information about the production and about devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

With this premiere, HM Television and the young people who have participated in its production want to join the desire expressed by Sister Lucia throughout her life: that the world may know and live the message of reparation and conversion entrusted by the Virgin in Fatima and Pontevedra exactly one hundred years ago.

May the Mother of Heaven bless this small cinematic offering and make its fruit fruitful in many souls.
