Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the  Gospel of Sunday, August 16, 2026,  entitled, “Woman, how great is your faith.”

In the Gospel, we see the scene of the  Canaanite woman , who is not of the people of Israel, and who asks Jesus to heal her daughter who is being tormented by a demon.  The woman cries out  to Jesus, “Have mercy on me,”  hoping to be heard by the Lord, even though he initially does not answer her.

Jesus marvels at this woman’s faith: ”  Woman, great is your faith! Your request is granted .” Coming from paganism and idolatry, she found healing for her daughter; and for herself, she found the living God.

What  saves is faith , regardless of race, people, or nation.

Her path is the path of a person of goodwill who seeks God and finds Him. Because of her faith, the Lord blesses her.

We too  are called to grow in faith , to discover and freely accept God’s gift and to cry out to the Lord.

We are called to  grow in faith.  Yes, faith is a life, a love story between God and us, and it grows as we  deepen our friendship with God ; it grows as  we trust in Him each day ; it grows when  we embrace His Word and live by it ; it  grows as we invoke the gift of the Holy Spirit each day  to fill us with love for the Lord; it grows when we go beyond ourselves and  love others  as Christ  loves us ; it grows  when we take up our cross  and follow the Lord where He wants to lead us, not where we want to go; it grows  when we live  not in isolation, but  in His body, which is the Church .

We are called to  ask the Lord for what we need.  To cry out to Him, even in the most difficult moments.

But without demanding or claiming anything, but rather  experiencing everything as a gift , as a grace, as a present.

And with the confidence of knowing that God loves us – He never stops loving us – and gives us what we need.

How is your faith?  Do you feel in need of God’s salvation? Or do you feel strong and believe you can do everything?

Draw near to the Lord in prayer! Ask Him for the Holy Spirit!  Persistently ask Him for what you most need in your life of faith to attain eternal life!

And don’t worry if the Lord takes a while! Rest in Him! He loves you more than anyone! He cares for you!
