Why do we feel more alone today than ever before?
The refuge of what's essential: family as an antidote to modern loneliness
We live connected to everything and everyone, but at the same time more alone than ever . We walk among crowds without looking at each other, each one immersed in their own world, with screens, headphones, and a sense of urgency.
In a time when messages are instantaneous and social media promises closeness, honest conversations are scarce and loneliness has become a silent companion. Alongside it, indifference—its most dangerous shadow—slowly dehumanizes us.
In the video, produced by Daniel Tobón of LaFamilia.info , he reflects on two invisible ailments of our time: loneliness and indifference. They aren’t always visible, but they hurt, affect our emotional well-being, and invite us to return to what is essential: human connection, empathy, and a sense of community.
An invitation to reconnect
Amidst so much haste, noise, and disconnection, family remains that place where, even broken, we can begin again. Returning to connection, looking each other in the eye, listening attentively, and sharing real time can be the first step in healing a society sick with loneliness.
