The Wait: A short film that celebrates the value of life

To mark the  International Day of Life , celebrated on March 25, 2026, the short film “The Wait” was released  , a production that invites deep reflection on the sacred value of human life. Directed by José Núñez, this moving and intimate short immerses us in a personal dialogue between a daughter and her hospitalized father, during a moment of doubt, exhaustion, and despair.

Throughout its approximately 3 minutes and 45 seconds, the story unfolds in an everyday setting: a woman overwhelmed by work, loneliness, and external pressures, who has a conversation with her unborn child while facing the most difficult decision of her life.

The dialogue that touches the heart

“What’s the point of all this waiting?” the daughter asks herself, exhausted, after speaking with the doctor who confirms that “everything is the same, unchanged.” She feels alone, without time, without strength, and without resources. “I just want this to be over and get on with my life,” she confesses in a moment of raw honesty.

However, the father’s voice responds with surprising tenderness and maturity:

“You’re wrong there. Of course I am. I’m here with you… I’m as much a part of you as you are of me.”

His father reminds him of the external pressures (“they tell me everything: to do it, not to, to think it over”), but also the consequences that no one else considers: that it could be worse for both of them, that he wouldn’t do it well or that in the end “I wouldn’t want you by my side”.

With a hope that transcends his current condition, the father tells him:

“My love, I understand your doubts, but you mustn’t give up. Remember that phrase of yours: ‘The best things are on the other side of fear.’”

And he continues painting a possible future: feeling the sun on his face, breathing on his own, laughing with her, walking, making his own journey… “And all of it, all of it would be thanks to you.”

The emotional climax comes when the father states forcefully:

“Even though I’m in the state I’m in, there’s something I do feel strongly: that this is worth it.”

And it closes with an invitation full of love:

“Hold on and trust, my love. Give me the chance. We both know that life is worth the wait.”

A universal message for the International Day of Life

The Wait  is not just a pro-life short film; it is an invitation to hold onto hope even in the deepest darkness. It shows that, even when circumstances seem overwhelming, life always brings with it the possibility of miracles, of light, and of a love that justifies any sacrifice.

The phrase that runs throughout the work —“The best things are on the other side of fear”— becomes the central axis of the message: surrendering to fear is giving up on the best that life can offer.

With a simple yet emotionally charged approach, José Núñez manages to make the viewer identify with the protagonist’s internal conflict and, at the same time, be moved by the innocent and wise voice of the unborn child.

This short film is a perfect tool for reflecting, discussing, and celebrating life in all its stages. Because, as the son’s voice says:  life is worth the wait .
