The Pope spent a quiet night at Gemelli

Latest information note from the Holy See

The Holy See Press Office announced this morning, Sunday 23 February, via its Telegram channel, that “the night was quiet, the Pope rested.”

Yesterday afternoon, Saturday 22, it released the medical bulletin on the Holy Father’s health:

The condition of the Holy Father remains critical, so, as explained yesterday, the Pope is not out of danger.

This morning, Pope Francis had a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis, which also required the application of high-flow oxygen.

Today’s blood tests also showed thrombocytopenia, associated with anemia, which required the administration of blood transfusions.

The Holy Father continues to be attentive and has spent the day in an armchair, although in more pain than yesterday.

For the moment, the diagnosis is reserved.
