The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Piero Pioppo as Apostolic Nuncio to Spain and the Principality of Andorra
With extensive diplomatic experience in Asia and Africa
The Holy See Press Office reported in its September 15 bulletin that “the Holy Father has appointed His Excellency Monsignor Piero Pioppo, titular Archbishop of Torcello, as Apostolic Nuncio to Spain and the Principality of Andorra. He was previously Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia and to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).”
Monsignor Piero Pioppo
He was born on September 29, 1960, in Savona, Italy. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1985, and incardinated in the Diocese of Acqui Terme. Likewise, he holds a doctorate in dogmatic theology. He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on July 1, 1993, serving in the Apostolic Nunciatures of Korea and Chile, and in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State. He was appointed Prelate of the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR) on July 7, 2006.
Appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea on 25 January 2010, and Titular Archbishop of Torcello. He received episcopal ordination on 18 March 2010. Appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia on 8 September 2017. Appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on 19 March 2018. Languages spoken: Italian, French, English, and Spanish.
