The green of hope floods Madrid: “We will not give up nor lose hope for the right to life”

The heart of Spain was awash in the green of hope yesterday. In a demonstration of strength and civic commitment, tens of thousands of people took to the streets of the capital this Sunday, May 31, to celebrate the  2026 March for Life . The event, which has become an essential annual gathering since its inception in 2011, brought together more than 500 national and international civic associations and organizations under a single banner: the unrestricted defense of human dignity from conception to natural death.

Despite the recent changes in dates and route, the loyalty of the organizers —among which stand out the Spanish Federation of PRO-LIFE Associations, the ACdP, the Family Forum, the REDMADRE Foundation and NEOS, among hundreds of acronyms— demonstrated that the pro-life movement maintains an iron social muscle.

Testimonies, music and a minute of deafening silence

The event, hosted by presenters Marichu Suárez, José Martín Aguado, and Marcel García, alternated between political activism and deeply emotional moments. The main stage resonated with the inspiring stories of Kevin, Sintia, and Miriam, who gave a face and voice to the realities of human vulnerability.

One of the most poignant moments of the demonstration occurred during the release of green balloons into the Madrid sky. Preceded by a respectful yet profound minute of silence in memory of unborn children, victims of abortion, and what the organization calls the “culture of death,” a young woman named Lucía (from the account @Familiatorrespascual) performed the anthem ”  Que Viva la Vida” (Long Live Life ), followed by a moving song dedicated to mothers. To close the event on a festive and celebratory note, the pop-rock band Green Velvet gave a live concert for all those in attendance.

The event wasn’t confined to the streets. Thanks to sponsorship from Methos Media, among other entities, the march was streamed live in its entirety  via  the Sialavida25m YouTube channel, connecting thousands of viewers throughout Spain and Latin America.

A manifesto against the “objectification” of life

The ideological core of the day was embodied in the reading of the  Yes to Life Manifesto 2026. The text, with its decidedly firm and combative tone, did not limit itself to celebration, but also issued a stark warning about the current legislative direction, both at the national and community levels.

“We denounce that, not only in Spain, but also in the European Union, an ideology of contempt and objectification of human life and the imposition of a culture of death is being introduced insistently and through pressure,” the manifesto reads.

The organizers unanimously demanded the  repeal of current anti-life laws , strongly criticizing political attempts to enshrine abortion in constitutional texts under the guise of “false rights.” The document also makes a direct appeal to political leaders to draft just laws based on natural law and to “not ignore the gravity of the issue.”

The key points of the 2026 Manifesto

  • Comprehensive protection:  Demand for effective medical, personal and social support so that no life is undervalued, discriminated against or discarded.
  • Support for professionals:  Explicit support for healthcare workers and researchers who defend life and who often “have to face pressures and shortages.”
  • Cultural battle:  An urgent call for profound cultural change based on the “recovery of conscience and common sense”.

The day concluded with a firm declaration of intent from the Platform: a promise not to give up. After recalling that this initiative was born from the global consensus at the first International Pro-Life Congress in 2003 (where March 25th was originally established as the International Day of Life), the organizers affirmed that the green wave will continue to take to the streets year after year. “We commit to continue working in favor of all human life, each in our own field,  without giving up or losing hope, ” they declared, sealing the day with a resounding and unanimous “Yes to life!”
