The coming of the Antichrist. The signs of the end

The coming of the Antichrist and the end times have always sparked much speculation and fascination. And they have even more ignited the imaginations of novelists and filmmakers, who have fantasized, with varying degrees of theological rigor, about the final days before the Second Coming, drawing on the Book of Revelation or other extra-biblical narratives.

Therefore, it is welcome to see an essay that adheres to the primary sources: the Bible, the Church Fathers, and the Magisterium (especially the Catechism of the Catholic Church). References are also made to well-researched novels such as *Lord of the World*, to the sermons on the Antichrist by St. John Henry Newman, and to the diary of St. Faustina Kowalska.

The book contains a good compilation of these texts, arranged by themes that facilitate reading and help one understand what surrounds this enigma: What will be the situation of humanity when the end of times comes and what will happen to the Church; what do we know about the antichrist and the false prophet, what does the number of the beast symbolize; the great tribulation, the apostasy from the truth, the two witnesses, the conversion of Israel and the final triumph of Christ and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

And all this to show us, as Fulton Sheen said, that “the Antichrist will not be called that, otherwise he would have no followers. He will not wear red robes, he will not vomit sulfur, he will not carry a trident. The great objective of the Antichrist will be, like that of the devil, to resemble God.” And to strengthen our confidence that all things work together for good (2 Corinthians 4:15); that the Lord has conquered evil, the devil, and death. Therefore, a book written from a place of hope, not to provoke fear, but to prepare us for the coming of the Son of Man.

Jesús Silva, a priest from the diocese of Madrid, dedicated to youth ministry and an influencer on social media, is sober in his statements and limits himself to letting the texts speak for themselves, because there is a danger of drawing hasty and alarming conclusions about the current state of the world, when what our Lord Jesus Christ encourages us to do is to live the present praying and waiting vigil for his coming with peace and without fear.
