The Big Bang didn’t happen millions of years ago: it’s happening right now
Why the true explosion that gave rise to everything wasn't physical, but a burst of light and purpose that continues to expand your personal universe
We often think of the Big Bang as a remote event, an explosion of matter and gas lost in the mists of time. However, there is another kind of “Big Bang.” One that didn’t create galaxies of stone and fire, but a universe of meaning, freedom, and joy. To understand it, we must look beyond physics and examine the history of humankind.
The boiling cauldron
For centuries, humanity lived in a kind of spiritual cauldron. From Genesis, through the prophets, slavery in Egypt, and the desert, the tension steadily increased. Hundreds of pages of sacred history simmered, preparing the ground for a moment of total rupture.
And suddenly, the first great explosion occurred: the Resurrection .
This is the true Big Bang that is still expanding. It is not a static event in a history book; it is a shockwave that, 2000 years later, continues to illuminate the darkest areas of our existence.
“The resurrection of Christ illuminates everything: from the birth of a child with a disability to the most painful loss or the deepest betrayal. In the light of this explosion, life ceases to be ‘a bad night in a bad inn’ and becomes a journey with a destination.”
The fire that never goes out: Pentecost
If the Resurrection was the explosion of light, Pentecost was the democratization of that energy. In ancient times, only a select few—Abraham, Moses, Elijah—had direct access to that frequency of the divine. The people heard it secondhand.
But with Pentecost, the Big Bang became personal. A fire was ignited in the soul of each individual, bestowing a wisdom not learned in universities: the capacity to love. Those first Christians had no theological treatises, but they had something the modern world sometimes forgets: “See how they love one another .” That was their science.
An expansion that you star in
Today, that shockwave continues to manifest itself in astonishing ways:
- On a macro level: Through institutions that move the world, universities, and massive charitable works.
- On a micro level: In the layperson who opens a home for single mothers, in the person who sponsors a child in Africa without telling anyone, or in young people like Carlo Acutis, who with a t-shirt and an internet connection, become modern beacons.
Even in the acts of kindness of someone who claims to be an atheist, that same Spirit is present. Every good deed done in the world, from the smallest act of charity to the greatest sacrifice, is an echo of that original explosion.
Join the ripple effect
You don’t need to be an expert to be part of this movement. You can be an evangelist in sneakers and jeans. The invitation is simple yet ambitious: let that Big Bang grow within you. Every act of love is proof that the spiritual universe continues to expand. Let’s do all the good we can and allow the ripple effect of hope to reach, through us, those who still live in darkness.
