“Thank you for the fire you lit”: Leo XIV closes the Jubilee of Youth with the Angelus
The Pope concludes a weekend of faith, emotion, and hope for the entire Church at Tor Vergata
Pope Leo XIV presided over the Angelus at Tor Vergata this Sunday, closing the Jubilee of Youth with a message filled with gratitude and encouragement. After the vigil and the mass, the Holy Father addressed a few moving words to the hundreds of thousands of young people who had accompanied him during these days:
“The Lord Jesus is present among us and in us… United with Him, we wish to offer an immense ‘thank you’ to the Father for the gift of these days of His Jubilee.”
Recalling the enthusiasm, faith, and commitment of the young people who had come from all over the world, Leo XIV emphasized that this Jubilee has been “a cascade of grace for the Church and for the entire world.” He especially expressed his gratitude for the generosity of those who prepared and intensely experienced the meeting, from volunteers to pilgrims.
During his Sunday homily, the Pope encouraged young people to “aspire to great things” and reaffirmed that another world is possible if it is built on the Gospel. He also had kind words for young people suffering in conflict zones, such as Gaza and Ukraine.
The Angelus thus marked the close of a historic event that has ignited, as Leo XIV said, “a flame that must not be extinguished.” With renewed spiritual impetus, the young people now return to their countries as witnesses of hope, joy, and living faith.
