Schedule of Celebrations Presided over by the Holy Father Leo XIV (May 2025)
On the occasion of the beginning of the Petrine ministry of the new Bishop of Rome, Leo XIV, various liturgical celebrations have been scheduled throughout the month of May 2025
The following is the schedule of events presided over by the Holy Father:
May 18: Fifth Sunday of Easter
- Location: St. Peter’s Square
- Time: 10:00 a.m.
- Celebration: Eucharist for the beginning of the Petrine ministry of Bishop Leo XIV of Rome
- Papal Chapel
St. Peter’s Square will host this significant ceremony in which Pope Leo XIV will solemnly begin his ministry as Universal Pastor of the Church. The celebration will be attended by faithful from around the world, as well as ecclesial and diplomatic representatives.
May 20: Visit to the Tomb of Saint Paul
- Location: Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls
- Time: 5:00 PM
The Holy Father will visit the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls to venerate the tomb of the Apostle to the Gentiles. This gesture symbolizes an act of communion with the roots of the Christian faith and the evangelizing mission.
May 25: Sixth Sunday of Easter
- Location: Basilica of Saint John Lateran
- Time: 5:00 PM
- Celebration: Eucharist and installation of the Roman Chair by Bishop Leo XIV of Rome
- Papal Chapel
In this solemn celebration, Leo XIV will take possession of the Roman Chair, reaffirming his role as Bishop of Rome. Later, at 7:00 PM, the Pope will move to the Basilica of St. Mary Major to venerate the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Salus Populi Romani, a gesture of profound Marian devotion.
May 31: Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
- Location: St. Peter’s Basilica
- Time: 10:00 AM
- Celebration: Mass with priestly ordinations
The month will conclude with a solemn Eucharist in St. Peter’s Basilica, where the Pope will preside over priestly ordinations, an act in which the new priests will be entrusted to the service of the Church.
