Reflection by Bishop Enrique Díaz: “Today the Savior is born to us”

Monsignor Enrique Díaz Díaz shares with Exaudi readers his reflection on the Gospel of this Thursday, December 25, 2025, entitled: “Today the Savior has been born to us.

***

Isaiah 9:1-3, 5-6:  “A son has been given to us.”

Psalm 95:  “Today a Savior has been born to us”

Titus 2:11-14:  “The grace of God has appeared to all men”

Luke 2:1-14:  “Today the Savior has been born to us”

“Today a light shines upon us, for unto us the Lord has been born; he is called Wonderful Counselor, God, Prince of Peace, Father of the world to come, and his kingdom will have no end.”

Today, all is joy: the Son of God has pitched his tent among us. He took on the flesh of a virgin and entered history as one of us. A light has shone in the darkness and illuminated all the shadows of humanity. Today, the history of the entire universe changes. By becoming the child of God, he gives us the possibility of becoming “Children of God” ourselves. Today, let us also be amazed by the joyful song of the angels. Let us also run like the shepherds to find the God made child among the chaff. So long had the prophets foretold it! So long had all the peoples awaited it! Now here he is among us, transforming our humanity and giving it meaning. Our Savior has come, and we have opened our hearts to make room for him who comes to save us. There will no longer be a pilgrim in solitude, for the steps of the Divine Pilgrim come to match the pace of the migrant and the solitary. There will no longer be lives without meaning, for Truth and Life come to fill our empty lives with fullness. There will be no more fear of evil because this Light conquers all darkness. But we need to make it our own, our own truth, our own life… because otherwise, we too will deserve the evangelist’s reproach: “He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.” Today, let us sing with the angels the joyful melody: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will.” May our will and our joy unite with the will and the true joy of our Good God. May we, like the shepherds, return singing, praising, and glorifying God, may we return to our fields to fill them with joy, peace, and happiness. Merry Christmas to you all! Congratulations, for today God is with us!
