Petition: That humanitarian and international law be respected in conflict zones and that a negotiated solution be reached between the parties involved
Pope Leo XIV held a private audience with US Vice President James David (J.D.) Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who attended the inaugural Mass of his pontificate on Sunday.
Following the private audience with the American Pope, Mr. Vance met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
During cordial conversations at the Secretariat of State, Mr. Vance and Archbishop Gallagher reiterated the good bilateral relations between the Holy See and the United States, according to the Holy See Press Office.
They also discussed collaboration between the Church and the US government, as well as several issues of particular relevance to ecclesial life and religious freedom.
Finally, views were exchanged on several current international issues, urging respect for humanitarian and international law in conflict zones and a negotiated solution between the parties involved, the Holy See Press Office reported.
