Pope Leo XIV Crosses the Holy Door in a Moving Jubilee Procession with the Roman Curia
The Holy See experienced a historic day on June 9, with a solemn procession to St. Peter's Basilica led by the Holy Father, as part of Jubilee 2025
The morning of Monday, June 9, was marked by a particularly significant moment for the universal Church: Pope Leo XIV, accompanied by members of the Roman Curia, participated in a Jubilee procession that culminated with a passage through the Holy Door of the Vatican Basilica, as a visible sign of the spiritual pilgrimage toward hope, the central motto of Jubilee 2025.

Before beginning the procession, the Holy Father attended a spiritual reflection led by Sister Maria Gloria Riva of the Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament. At the end, a young Jubilee volunteer presented the Pope with the Jubilee Cross, a symbolic gesture that marked the beginning of the journey to the Basilica.
The procession departed from the Paul VI Auditorium and proceeded through the Square of the Protomartyrs of Rome. After crossing the Arch of the Bells and ascending the steps of the atrium, Pope Leo XIV led the procession through the Holy Door, thus marking the liturgical beginning of the Holy See’s Jubilee.

Following him were cardinals, bishops, priests, and lay people working in the various Vatican dicasteries. All shared in this sign of communion and conversion, characteristic of the Jubilee spirit. The ceremony concluded with the celebration of Holy Mass presided over by the Pope inside the Basilica.
This deeply symbolic gesture reaffirms the call of the Jubilee: to rediscover hope, to be reconciled with God, and to journey in community as a Church on a united pilgrimage.
