Pope Leo XIV Calls Young People and the Church to Serve the Kingdom of God
At the Jubilee Audience on October 4, the Pontiff reflects on the radical choice of Saint Clare of Assisi and its relevance for Christians today
On the morning of October 4, 2025, Pope Leo XIV presided over a moving Jubilee audience in St. Peter’s Square, where he called on young people and the entire Church to renew their commitment to the Kingdom of God. Before thousands of pilgrims, the Pontiff emphasized the importance of a conscious and radical choice of the Gospel as a way of life, quoting Jesus’ words: “No servant can serve two masters” (Luke 16:13-14).
The Pope recalled the example of Saint Clare of Assisi, who, in her youth, chose evangelical poverty and the life of the Beatitudes over the riches and comforts of the world. “He who does not choose, despairs,” affirmed Leo XIV, emphasizing that the choice for Christ implies an active and transformative decision.
The Holy Father also reflected on the meaning of hope in times of uncertainty, noting that “to hope is to choose.” This choice, he explained, is not passive, but an active response to God’s call, which invites each person to commit to justice, peace, and fraternity.

In a global context marked by inequality and injustice, the Pope urged the faithful to choose a lifestyle that reflects Gospel values, recalling that the Jubilee offers an opportunity for a “different distribution of wealth” and for “the earth to belong to all.”
The audience concluded with a prayer for young people, asking them to follow Saint Clare’s example and become instruments of peace and hope in the world. The Pope also expressed his joy at Clare’s election, emphasizing that her decision endures to this day as a testimony of faith and courage.
This message is framed within the context of Jubilee 2025, a year dedicated to spiritual reflection and renewal, in which the Church invites all the faithful to deepen their commitment to the Gospel and to live in a manner consistent with the values of the Kingdom of God.
