Pope Leo XIV brings hope and closeness
From a Mass with the Carabinieri in Castel Gandolfo to a tender visit to the Poor Clare monastery in Albano, the Pope walks paths of faith, gratitude, and prayer
Pope Leo XIV continues to take concrete steps toward pastoral closeness in the midst of summer. In recent hours, he has made two deeply symbolic gestures that reflect his style: a simple leadership, full of gratitude and fraternity.
On Sunday morning, the Pope presided over Mass at the Castel Gandolfo Carabinieri station. Accompanied by officers and their families, Leo XIV expressed his gratitude for the silent commitment of those who guarantee citizen security: “Their work often goes unnoticed, but it is essential for the common good,” he said during his homily. With warm words, he encouraged those present to never lose sight of the human and spiritual horizon of their vocation, recalling that “serving others is a concrete form of love.”

The atmosphere was simple, familiar, and filled with mutual respect. After the ceremony, the Pope personally greeted those present, paying special attention to some children and the elderly, a gesture that has become characteristic of his pontificate.
The day before, on Saturday afternoon, Leo XIV surprised the Poor Clares of Albano with an unannounced visit. In the seclusion of the monastery, he shared a moment of prayer and dialogue with the cloistered community. The emotion was palpable. The Holy Father thanked the nuns for their hidden dedication and silent fidelity: “You sustain the world with your prayer, even if you don’t always see it,” he told them tenderly.
During the conversation, the Pope asked for prayers for him and the Church, especially in these uncertain times. The Poor Clares, for their part, gave him sweets they had prepared themselves and promised to always keep him in their daily prayers.
With these two gestures, Pope Leo XIV recalled that the Church lives in the peripheries, in small gestures, in the places where faith is intertwined with daily life. Her humble and close presence continues to touch hearts and ignite hope.
