Pope Francis’ celebrations for January and February
Among the events announced are the Second Vespers in the Basilica of St. Paul on the occasion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and the first Jubilee events
The Pope’s agenda for the coming weeks combines tradition and Jubilee novelties. Archbishop Diego Ravelli, master of papal liturgical celebrations, announced today, January 8, the list of events that Francis will preside over between the end of this month and the beginning of the next.
The Week for Christian Unity
Tradition is represented by the celebration of Second Vespers in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, scheduled for January 25 at 5:30 p.m., on the occasion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which will reach its 58th edition in 2025. The theme chosen for this year is the question taken from a verse in the Gospel of John: “Do you believe this?” – with texts for reflection edited by the Monastic Community of Bose and inspired by the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, the first ecumenical council of Christianity.
First Masses of the Holy Year
On January 26, attention will focus on the first of the great events of the Holy Year, the Jubilee of the world of communication, which will see Francis at the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica at 9.30 am for the celebration of Mass.
On February 1, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the Pope will preside over the celebration of the First Vespers at 5 pm in the Vatican Basilica. Then, on Sunday, February 9, another great event of the Holy Year will be celebrated with Francis’ Mass on the occasion of the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, the Police and Security, scheduled for 10.30 am in St. Peter’s Square.
