Pope Francis at Gemelli: a peaceful night
Update from the Holy See Press Office
Following yesterday’s isolated attack of bronchospasm, the Holy See reports that “The night passed peacefully, the Pope is resting.”
This was announced by the Vatican Press Office in the update of this morning, March 1, on the state of health of Pope Francis, hospitalized since February 14 at the “Agostino Gemelli” Polyclinic.
Updates from the previous bulletin
In the bulletin released yesterday afternoon, Friday, February 28, it was reported that Francis had, early in the afternoon, “an isolated attack of bronchospasm” that “determined an episode of vomiting with inhalation and sudden worsening of the respiratory condition.” After rapid aspiration of the bronchi, the Pope began noninvasive mechanical ventilation “with good response of gas exchange.” As far as we know, gas exchange values have returned to those of before the crisis.
The Pontiff has always remained “alert and oriented”, according to yesterday evening’s medical bulletin, the Pope collaborated in the therapeutic maneuvers. It will take approximately 24-48 hours to evaluate the clinical condition of the Holy Father after this isolated attack of bronchospasm.
