Nachter and Roseanne: “The humor that unites: laughing with others, not at others”

With an open stage and thousands of expectant people, Nachter and Roseanne—he with more than 27 million followers on social media—took the microphone during the 33rd Marian Family Day in Torreciudad to talk about a topic they master perfectly: humor as a tool for family unity.

“Hello, hello, good afternoon, Torreciudad… how cool!” Nachter began, sparking laughter and applause with his contagious energy. “Wave, let’s go! From there to there!” he encouraged, getting thousands of arms moving in unison. Thus began a warm, sincere conversation filled with anecdotes that resonated with the families present.

From businessman to “Catholic influencer”

Nachter—whose real name is Nacho Gil Conesa—recounted how he went from being a Valencian businessman to one of the most followed content creators in Spain. “I always wanted to be an actor,” he confessed, “but my mother told me, ‘That’s not going to feed you.’” However, social media gave him an opportunity. He began making short videos on a private account, until one day he entrusted himself to God: “Lord, if you want, here I am.” Hours later, a video of his went viral. “I ran back to the oratory: ‘Lord, what about the lottery?’ But no, I only got the latter,” he joked.

It was during the pandemic that her career truly took off. While recording Masses for a parish, she began praying with special devotion to the Virgin Mary. “I thought: Jesus must be very busy, and the Virgin Mary is a mother… and mothers can do anything!” Thus was born the character of “Nachter’s mother,” which catapulted her to massive fame. “We went from 200,000 to more than 30 million followers. The Virgin Mary has a great sense of humor,” she said with a laugh.

Humor with values

His wife, Roseanne, recounted how she experienced this transformation: “At first, I wasn’t aware of it. To me, it was just numbers on a screen.” But she soon realized the impact: “People stop him on the street as if they’ve known him all their lives. I realized his humor was good.”

Both emphasized the importance of humor that unites, not divides: “Laugh with others, not at others,” Roseanne emphasized. Nachter added: “We try not to hurt feelings. Humor should respect, not humiliate.”

Faith, family and resilience

Asked about the secret to maintaining joy even in difficult times, both answered in unison: “God.” “Pain is a part of life,” Nachter reflected, “but what matters is how you face it: with faith, trust, and helping one another.” Roseanne added: “God is our Father, and we can trust Him completely, even if we don’t understand Him sometimes.”

They also talked about their experience as siblings in large families—he with two siblings, she with four—and how it taught them to share, listen, and serve. “Sometimes I would save the cookies so I wouldn’t have to share them,” Roseanne confessed with a laugh, “but in the end, you learn that family comes first.”

A message for families

As a final piece of advice, Nachter asked parents and children to “connect more”: “Parents, spend some time on TikTok, understand what your children are watching. Children, put down your phones and spend time with your family. I assure you, you won’t regret it.”

Roseanne emphasized the value of service: “Thinking about others, how to make their lives easier. That brings us together a lot.”

And the Virgin Mary?

When asked what the Virgin Mary would be like as a mother today, Nachter didn’t hesitate: “I’d spend all day sending memes and asking Jesus if he’d eaten.” Roseanne added: “I’d be a modern mother, attentive to everyone, laughing with us, not at us.”

The talk concluded with a giant selfie with the audience and a clear message: humor, lived with faith and respect, can be a powerful tool for evangelization and family cohesion.
