Pope Francis has declared a Jubilee Year in 2025 under the motto “Pilgrims of Hope,” a time of special grace in which the faithful can receive a plenary indulgence. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (no. 1471), indulgence is “the remission before God of the temporal punishment for sins, already forgiven as to guilt, which a faithful person obtains through the mediation of the Church, fulfilling certain conditions.”

To obtain a plenary indulgence during the Jubilee, it is necessary to pass through a Holy Door, in addition to fulfilling the usual requirements: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.

In order to facilitate this journey of grace for those unable to travel to Rome, the Pope requested that every diocese in the world open a Holy Door.
