Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom: Commentary by Fr. Jorge Miró
Sunday, November 23, 2025
Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the Gospel of Sunday, November 23, 2025 entitled “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
***
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. With today’s celebration, the Liturgical Year ends. Next Sunday begins the season of Advent
In celebrating this feast, we want to emphasize that Jesus Christ is the King, the Lord, the only Lord, and there is no other who can give us life; there is no other who can save us. Jesus Christ lives! He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16), the Alpha and the Omega, the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty. This celebration reminds us that we cannot worship anyone but Him, that we must obey God rather than men.
Accepting Jesus as King means putting your whole life under His Lordship.
Being a Christian isn’t about having your head full of ideas, but about living the lifestyle of Jesus Christ. It’s about proclaiming Jesus Christ as King and Lord of your life, of your whole life; following Him every day, not alone, but in communion with other disciples, living the faith in the Church, the Body of Christ; it’s about living open to the action of the Holy Spirit.
This Word invites you today to ask yourself what Jesus Christ truly means in your life. Is He really the King of your life? Who do you listen to each day, each moment of life? Does Jesus Christ truly occupy the center of your heart? Is there any corner of your life where you don’t let Jesus in? Do you trust Him? Do you obey Him above all else? Are you willing to follow Him each day, to let Him lead your life wherever He wants? Who is Jesus Christ to you? An idea? A figure from the past? Or do you truly have an encounter with the living and risen Jesus Christ each day? Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, of your entire life?
Christ’s throne is the cross, and his crown is not of gold, but of thorns. This means that if you want to accept Christ as King, you will have to take up your cross, you will have to live the struggle of faith, you will have to endure the incomprehension and mockery of others, you will have to experience the rejection of the world… You will have to die to yourself to inherit the glory of eternal life.
The Kingdom of Christ is not of this world, and its values are not money, power, prestige, or domination. The Kingdom of Christ is the kingdom of truth and life, the kingdom of holiness and grace, the kingdom of justice, love, and peace.
This feast is an invitation not to fall into idolatry : not to ask idols for our lives: money, power, pleasure, success, beauty… God alone suffices. Only He can quench all the thirst in your heart.
With whom do you identify? With the bad thief who rejects Jesus and mocks Him? Or with the good thief who accepts Jesus, trusts Him, and takes refuge in His mercy?
Take heart! Ask for the Holy Spirit, ask Him to fill you with love for Jesus Christ; that each day you may proclaim Him King of your life, because no one can say, “Jesus is Lord!” except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3). Then you will see how He takes you out of the dominion of darkness, grants you the gift of sharing in the inheritance of the holy people in the light, and you too can live singing, “Let us go joyfully to the house of the Lord.”
Come, Holy Spirit!
