Let’s Save Love in Crisis
Ignacio Tornel's book presents Restorative Family Mediation: a hopeful path to rebuilding marriages instead of dissolving them
The publishing house EUNSA (Ediciones Universidad de Navarra) has recently published * Restorative Family Mediation *, a book by Ignacio Tornel García, a family mediator with over twenty years of professional experience and a doctorate in the field of mediation. The book is available in paperback and eBook formats.
The author, who has run his own practice since 2006 and is known for previous titles such as Enparejarte and Relacionarte (published by Planeta), brings together in this text his practical experience along with the results of his doctoral research. The book offers a systematic analysis of family mediation from three complementary perspectives: legal (with a review of the national, European, and international regulatory framework), anthropological-psychological (focusing on the relational dimension of the person and the cultural and individual factors that influence conflicts), and family stability (evaluating the impact of conflict on personal and social well-being).
In contrast to traditional family mediation, which is often associated with the divorce process and is limited to facilitating an amicable separation, Tornel García presents an original proposal: Restorative Family Mediation (RFM©) . This intervention model seeks not only to resolve the conflict but also to restore the relationship between the parties whenever possible, offering couples in crisis a more open, pragmatic, and constructive perspective. The approach emphasizes joint reflection, dialogue, and overcoming differences with the ultimate goal of preserving family bonds and protecting stability as a relevant legal and social right.
The text stands out for its accessible and informative style, making it a useful tool for professionals (lawyers, mediators, psychologists, social workers, family lawyers, counselors, coaches, and staff at family counseling centers) as well as for those who support married couples in parishes, associations, or church settings. The author emphasizes that mediation does not have to be an inevitable path to separation, but rather an inspiring resource to help couples overcome difficulties and continue with their family life project.
The work is already positioned as an interdisciplinary reference for those who work to strengthen the family as the basic nucleus of society.
Restorative Family Mediation invites us to rethink intervention in marital conflicts from a more hopeful and restorative perspective, offering a theoretical and practical framework that can contribute to reducing family instability in a social context where divorces remain a frequent reality.
