Leo XIV: “Educate, give voice, and proclaim hope”
On the 175th anniversary of the Jesuit magazine, "La Civiltà Cattolica," the Pontiff emphasizes the importance of educating, giving voice to the voiceless, and proclaiming hope in a world marked by polarization
Pope Leo XIV received a delegation from the Italian Jesuit magazine La Civiltà Cattolica on the occasion of its 175th anniversary. During this meeting, the Pontiff highlighted three fundamental missions he considers essential for the magazine: education, giving a voice to the voiceless, and proclaiming hope.
In his speech, the Pope emphasized that the magazine’s educational mission must extend beyond the transmission of knowledge, aiming to foster a profound critical conscience that enables readers to understand and transform reality from a Christian perspective.
He also emphasized the importance of giving voice to those who are often silenced in society, such as the poor, the marginalized, and the excluded. In this regard, he invited members of La Civiltà Cattolica to listen attentively and with empathy to those who suffer, recognizing in their pain the suffering of Christ.
Finally, the Pope emphasized the need to proclaim hope in a global context characterized by polarization and despair. He urged the magazine to be a beacon of light that illuminates the path toward a more just and fraternal future, offering a message of reconciliation and unity.
With these words, Pope Leo XIV reaffirms the commitment of La Civiltà Cattolica to the fundamental values of the Gospel and its role as an instrument of social and spiritual transformation in the contemporary world.
