Leo from Chicago”: A Journey to the Roots of Robert Francis Prevost
This production explores the childhood and vocation of the American prefect in his native Illinois, featuring testimonies from family, friends, and colleagues
The Vatican has released “Leo from Chicago”, a documentary that reconstructs the history and roots of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops. The production, presented by the Editorial Office of the Dicastery for Communication, combines interviews, archival footage, and previously unseen audiovisual material to offer an intimate glimpse into the life of the American prelate.
The journey begins in Dolton, a Chicago suburb where Prevost grew up with his brothers Louis and John, who share family memories and childhood anecdotes. The documentary follows his time in schools, universities, and religious communities, highlighting the testimonies of teachers, fellow students, and members of his congregation.
Directed by journalists Deborah Castellano Lubov, Salvatore Cernuzio, and Felipe Herrera-Espaliat, the film aims to portray not only the cardinal’s biography but also the values and spirituality that shaped his vocation to serve the Church.
The audiovisual production was made in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Apostolate of The Sower New Evangelization (ESNE), and is broadcast through the official channels of Vatican Radio – Vatican News.
With an intimate and personal tone, “Leo from Chicago” invites us to rediscover the human and spiritual journey of one of Pope Francis’s main collaborators.
