Invite everyone you find to the wedding: Commentary by Fr. Jorge Miró

Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the Gospel of Sunday, October 11, 2026, entitled, “ Invite everyone you find to the wedding .”

***

The key to understanding and welcoming the Word that the Lord gives us today has been given to us by the verse of the Alleluia: May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts, so that we may understand what is the hope to which he has called us (cf. Eph 1:17-18).

And today’s Word shows us this with the image of a banquet to which the Lord invites us . God loves you, He created you out of love, and He invites you to live life as a love story that the Lord is creating with you.

The first reading, from the prophet Isaiah, is a prophecy of what the Lord wants to do with you: A feast of rich food… will wipe away the tears from all faces… This is the promise the Lord gives you. If you open your heart to the Lord today, you will see this Word fulfilled in your life. In its fullness, in heaven, the goal toward which we journey. In this world, always as a firstfruits and a foretaste, always in the battle of faith. Do not be afraid of the battle! In the midst of the battle, call upon the Lord!

The Gospel also speaks to us of the banquet to which the Lord invites us. But some of the invited guests reject the invitation , making excuses for the Lord’s call. This is the mystery and the drama of human freedom. We too, at times, reject the Lord’s invitation and close ourselves off to his action.

Therefore, this is a Word that also calls us to conversion. A Word that invites you not to make excuses to the Lord, invites you to open the door of your heart to Him, invites you not to postpone your response to the Lord’s call.

If you accept this invitation and open your heart to the Lord, He will give you this wedding garment that one of the guests is missing. The Lord has already given you this garment: you received it on the day of your baptism. On that day, you were clothed in a white garment and received the Holy Spirit. And all of life consists of allowing the action of the Holy Spirit to grow within you , allowing Him to reproduce in you the image of Jesus Christ.

How can we tell if we wear the garment? It means we can live out what we proclaimed in the Psalm and the second reading. You will be able to say: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Even if you lack some things, if you live with the Lord, open to the action of the Spirit, you will be able to say: Your goodness and mercy accompany me… I know how to live in poverty and I know how to live in abundance. I can do all things through him who strengthens me .

Come Holy Spirit! (cf. Lk 11:13).
