Cardinal Zuppi’s visit to Beijing marks a further step in this crucial diplomatic work on behalf of Pope Francis, in the hope that it will contribute to peaceful solutions in Ukraine and the easing of tensions in the region.
Communiqué of the Holy See
On 13 and 15 September 2023, Card. Matteo Maria Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, accompanied by an official of the Secretariat of State, will visit Beijing as Envoy of the Holy Father Francis.
The visit is a further step in the Pope’s desired mission to support humanitarian initiatives and the search for ways that can lead to a just peace.
