Ideas for Being Artisans of Peace
Small Gestures That Transform the World
For some time now, I’ve been pondering how to achieve true peace in the broadest sense of the word. What they call comprehensive peace, which I believe should first be peace on a personal level, and then on a family, friendship, work, and society-wide level.
So, I decided to first look up the meaning of this simple yet profound word, composed of two consonants and a vowel, in the RAE dictionary.
- A situation in which there is no armed conflict in a country or between countries.
- A harmonious relationship between people, without confrontation or conflict.
On the other hand, if we search for the antonym of this word, we’ll get: enmity, conflict, war, etc.
In that sense, if what is mentioned in the previous two paragraphs is completely true, then I believe we are living an illusion, be it personal peace, family peace, work peace, peace in armed conflict, etc. I’m sure that the conditions for the peace achieved in any of these spheres are the result of what is imposed by the strongest or the victor. In this regard, I also looked up the meaning of the word artisan in the Royal Spanish Academy: a person who practices an art or craft. It is used in modern times to refer to someone who makes household objects on their own, imprinting them with a personal touch.
Now, I’m going to share some very simple ideas with you so that each of us, in the environment in which we live and develop, can try to be promoters of peace.
- To love: This is a free act; no one forces us. He who truly loves must commit and work to get to know the other person or party.
- To put one’s heart into it: If someone has hurt me, insulted me, or done something similar, first, truly forgive, without forgetting (which is not the same as holding a grudge).
- Action: What it means to put into practice, dynamically and consistently, universal values such as joy, truth, unity, etc., as well as the cardinal and theological virtues.
Therefore, I’m sharing with you some quotes associated with the topic that I’m sure will help you reflect on peace.
- Peace cannot be maintained by force; it can only be achieved through understanding. – Albert Einstein.
- There is no way to peace; peace is the way. – Mahatma Gandhi.
- Peace begins with a smile. – Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
So, what do you say? Are you ready to energize your hands constantly and without giving up, and thus be a true artisan of peace?
Cheer up, come on! If you can row against the current, go out into the deep and emerge victorious!
