“Highway to Heaven” Arrives in Rome: Carlo Acutis’ Musical Evangelizes with Art and Heart

The excitement is contagious. After a successful tour in Spain, the musical “Highway to Heaven,” inspired by the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis, is making its international debut in Rome. On April 26th, just before his canonization, this cast of young artists from the Talitha Cumi School will perform the play at the San Roberto Bellarmino Parish, in the heart of Piazza Ungheria, for the pilgrims of the Jubilee of Adolescents.

This musical is not just a play. It is a hymn to hope, a tool of evangelization, and a creative response to young people’s desire to live an authentic and joyful faith. Since its premiere, it has toured more than 15 Spanish cities and touched the hearts of more than 5,000 people. What began as an educational project has transformed into a true spiritual journey.

The Talitha Cumi Performing Arts School, founded in Valencia in 2014, has been the seedbed of this initiative. Born with the blessing of the then-Archbishop Carlos Osoro, its mission has been clear: to offer quality artistic training to young people with limited resources, combining talent, comprehensive education, and faith. Thanks to a scholarship system, many students have been able to access singing, dancing, and acting training and have found in the school a safe, family-oriented space in which to grow.

The musical, with an original script by Paz Matud, founder and director of the school, is a vibrant and emotional work that interweaves breakdancing, flamenco, ballet, hip hop, and live songs to tell the life of Carlo Acutis with freshness and depth. From his childhood until his death at the age of 15, the “cyber-apostle of the Eucharist” is presented as a young man who was close, joyful, and deeply in love with Jesus.

The next stop will be doubly special: Assisi and Rome. The students will make a pilgrimage to the blessed man’s tomb and offer their art as a prayer during one of the most significant moments of their spiritual journey. To make this trip a reality, they have launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover the travel expenses. The testimonies leave no room for doubt: students whose lives have changed, audiences who have returned to faith, tears, applause, silences filled with God. As one of the young actors says: “Carlo Acutis’s passage through our lives has pierced us.” And when art is placed at the service of the Gospel, the fruits are incalculable.

The story of these young artists is a “highway to heaven,” built with effort, generosity, and faith. And each performance is an invitation to walk it with them, to be touched by the light of a young saint who continues to transform the world with his simple and radical example: “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.”
