The Vatican has officially released the complete itinerary for Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey to South America, a major undertaking scheduled from November 6 to 17 of this year. The anticipation surrounding this trip is considerable, as it represents a long-awaited reunion with church communities that have not received a direct visit from a pope for decades.

The first leg of this intense continental tour will center on Uruguay, where the Holy Father will stay from November 6 to 8. This initial stop will serve to strengthen ties with the local Church and thus respond to the desire expressed by the Bishop of Rome himself to return to Latin America, following his recent meetings with the Uruguayan episcopate at the Apostolic See.

After concluding his visit to Uruguay, the tour will continue to Argentina, a leg of the journey filled with symbolism and a packed schedule of public and pastoral activities. The planned program in Argentina includes moments of profound social and spiritual significance, among them a visit to the Little Cottolengo Don Orione, a large gathering in the form of a vigil with young people, and the celebration of a solemn Eucharist in front of the historic Basilica of Luján.

The Argentine leg of the trip will also include gestures of significant humanitarian importance, such as the scheduled visit to the Federal Penitentiary Complex in Buenos Aires before departing for the final major nation on the tour. In this way, the Pope’s presence will seek to deliver a direct message of hope to the most vulnerable sectors and marginalized communities in the Río de la Plata region.

The final and most extensive leg of the papal journey will take place in Peru, encompassing diverse cities that reflect the rich geographical and cultural diversity of the Andean nation. The Peruvian agenda includes significant stops in Lima, the historic region of Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa, where the Pope will hold important meetings with communities of Amazonian peoples in the department of Ucayali.

Furthermore, the stay in Peru will be marked by liturgical celebrations and commemorations of great spiritual significance, including events dedicated to the memory of distinguished Church figures and activities related to the Jubilee Year of Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo. With this extensive twelve-day, ten-city itinerary, the Holy See is consolidating one of the most ambitious international agendas of the current pontificate.
