First steps and favorable outlook: the Pope walks around the room following the procedure
The Holy See Press Office releases a medical update confirming a normal post-operative recovery, with the resumption of a regular diet and the start of physical therapy and walking sessions
The Pope’s health is progressing steadily and within expected parameters. On the afternoon of October 14, the Holy See Press Office released the statement issued by his attending physicians, Luigi Carbone and Stefano Margaritora, offering a reassuring overview of the Holy Father’s condition following his recent surgery.
According to the official statement, the Pope underwent routine checkups this morning, including blood tests and a chest X-ray. The results confirm a completely normal postoperative recovery, with all values within the usual limits for this type of surgery.
The medical report also highlights remarkable progress in the patient’s functional recovery: the Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy exercises and has already taken his first steps walking around his room. Likewise, he has gradually resumed his regular diet, having eaten both breakfast and lunch normally.
With these clinical indicators, the specialists conclude that the recovery process “is proceeding as planned,” allaying concerns and consolidating a horizon of constant improvement from the Agostino Gemelli University Polyclinic.
Prayer for the health of Pope Leo XIV.
Good and merciful Father,
Physician of bodies and souls,
today we place in your loving hands
the life and health of your servant,
our Pope Leo XIV.
You who have called him to guide your Church,
sustain him in this moment of trial.
Enlighten the doctors and healthcare personnel
who will care for him, so that their intervention may be successful.
Grant him strength, peace, and a prompt and full recovery,
so that he may continue to proclaim your Gospel with joy.
We ask this through the intercession of Holy Mary,
Health of the Sick,
and of Saint Peter, to whom you entrusted your Church.
Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.
