Announces a New Phase of Growth and Sustainability

ePrex Celebrates Ten Years with Five Million Downloads

The Catholic app ePrex celebrates its tenth anniversary in the Spanish-speaking world, reaching nearly five million downloads and establishing itself as one of the most popular prayer platforms for the faithful in Spain and Latin America. The project, originally launched in Italy and revitalized in Spain, is now entering a new phase of development to continue offering free liturgical, biblical, and devotional texts to a growing user base of over 50 million new users each month.

The origins and its history

ePrex was created in Italy in 2012 as an application focused on the Liturgy of the Hours. Its Spanish version was released in 2015, which allowed its use to expand among Spanish-speaking communities in Europe and Latin America.

After a period of inactivity, in 2019 the project was taken over by a new management in Spain, which has boosted it into a solid platform, maintained by a team of volunteers and with a stable presence in more than 180 countries.

Growth and international expansion

The app has experienced sustained growth in both user numbers and international presence. It has accumulated nearly 5 million downloads on the App Store and Google Play, with an average of 50,000 new users each month, figures that place it among the most widely used prayer tools in the Spanish-speaking world.

The majority of its community is concentrated in Spain, several Latin American countries, and the United States. Furthermore, the app maintains an average global rating of 4.8 out of 5, the result of thousands of positive user reviews that highlight its three key features: it’s free, ad-free, and can be used offline.

In this latest stage, ePrex has incorporated liturgical and devotional content that covers a large part of daily prayer:  readings of the day, Gospel, Liturgy of the Hours, Rosary, novenas, devotional books, Bible and Saint of the day, in addition to the recent daily commentary on the Gospel.

The future of the project

Behind her is a team of dozens of volunteers convinced that prayer changes lives and of the importance of this tool in the spiritual life of millions of people.

“It’s very exciting to read the messages from those who tell us that, thanks to ePrex, they have started to pray, or that they can do so even while on missions in remote places… we have received thousands of different testimonies. That is what motivates us to continue growing,” says Pau Sabé, a volunteer at ePrex.

Currently, the app is at a key moment: its goal is to improve the app, offer new languages, create new functionalities (user profiles, notes, reminders, audio text…) and, to achieve this, they are preparing to form an internal team that will allow them to ensure the future of the project.

“ePrex is and always will be free because prayer should be accessible to everyone. But what is offered for free is not free to create and maintain. Every contribution from ePrex users helps to sustain and develop an app that accompanies the inner life of many of our brothers and sisters in their daily lives,” says Francisco Javier (Patxi) De Navascués, general manager of ePrex.

Therefore, those who wish to collaborate can easily do so through www.eprex.app/dona/.

Approaching its second decade, ePrex has established itself as a leading digital project for prayer in Spanish. The application is now focused on improving its technical reliability, expanding its features, and ensuring its sustainability so it can continue offering liturgical and devotional texts free of charge to a community that grows every year.
