Be Watchful: Commentary by Fr. Jorge Miró
Sunday, November 30, 2025
Fr. Jorge Miró shares with Exaudi readers his commentary on the Gospel of Sunday, November 30, 2025, entitled, “Be on the watch”.
***
We begin a new liturgical year, and with it, the season of Advent, which is a gift from the Lord; a time of hope, a precious time in which the Lord reminds you that you are not alone, that you have been created out of love, by Love, and that He is knocking today at the door of your life to give you a new life, a life of relationship, friendship and intimacy with the Lord.
This is the key : to be able to experience everything with the Lord. To discover that we are not alone, but that the Lord is always with us—if we let Him. Through baptism, we become temples of the Holy Spirit and are called to live our entire lives in constant dialogue with the Lord, enjoying His presence which, through the gift of the Holy Spirit, makes all things new.
On the one hand, it is a time of preparation for Christmas, in which we celebrate the first coming of the Son of God, and, on the other hand, we direct our attention towards the expectation of the second coming of Christ at the end of time.
This is why Advent is presented as the time of joyful hope. In the midst of the difficulties and problems of daily life, we can live with hope because we have the certainty of God’s faithfulness : there is nothing and no one that can separate us from the love of God manifested in Christ Jesus (cf. Rom 8).
Be alert! This is Jesus’ call in today’s Gospel. He addresses it not only to his disciples, but to everyone.
– To be vigilant, because we easily become distracted and forget about God.
– Watch over us, so that you may be clay in the Potter’s hands, and let yourself be molded by His Word; by the story He is making with you, which is a story of love and salvation; by the cross, so that you may reign with Christ on it.
– Watch, – so that you can hear the voice of God who gives you a Word of love, life and salvation every day.
– Watch over me, so that you do not lose the memory of what the Lord has done and is doing with you, and so that you may live in trust and hope.
– Watch, so that you can see that the Lord is with you and fights for you, and that will lead you to live rested and grateful.
– Watch over us, so that you never doubt the love of God, which is manifested in your life every day.
– Be vigilant, so that your faith does not fade, so that the evil one does not steal your faith.
– To watch, to be attentive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
– Be vigilant, so that each day you are attentive to the call of the Lord, who wants to meet with you.
A sign that you are awake is that the Word we heard today is being fulfilled in your life: that you walk in the light of the Lord. That you go joyfully to the house of the Lord, that you leave behind the works of darkness: gluttony, drunkenness… and clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Take heart! Open your heart to the Lord! Do not be afraid, for He does not come to take anything away from you, but to give you everything. Be prepared! For when you least expect it, the Lord will knock on the door of your heart.
If you believe, you will see the glory of God!
Come, Lord Jesus!
