A tool to help families choose appropriate reading material for their children
Alexia Editorial launches “Parents Goalkeeper”
Alexia Editorial has launched Padres Guardametas (Goalkeeper Parents), an innovative platform designed to guide families in choosing children’s and young adult books. Its aim is to offer clear, rigorous, and objective information about the content of the books children read, helping parents in their educational role without imposing ideological criteria.
“We want to support parents who want to encourage reading, but who also want to know what their children are reading,” explains Rafael Martínez-Echevarría, the project’s driving force. “In recent years, it’s been assumed that reading is always good, but few people ask themselves what they’re reading. Just as we’re careful about what our children eat, we should also be careful about what they read.”
The initiative stems from the conviction that reading should be free, but informed. “It’s not about censorship or judging literary quality, but simply about offering objective information about the content of books,” adds Martínez-Echevarría. “Each family has its own criteria, and our role is to provide the necessary information so they can decide freely.”
Padres Guardametas offers a constantly growing database that analyzes works according to criteria such as the presence of violence, sexuality, inappropriate language, substance use or ideological references (gender ideology, occultism, etc.).
The platform adds new titles to its database daily and also allows users to request a rating for a specific book through the contact form. Currently, the database includes best-selling books and will continue to expand. If a parent wants to know the content of a particular book, they can request it through the website, and the rating will be published as soon as possible.
“You are freer when you have more information,” Martínez-Echevarría summarizes. “Choosing a book without knowing what it contains is like choosing blindly. Our mission is to offer a minimum of transparency to facilitate the choice.”
Alexia Editorial, which defines itself as a small but growing publisher, reaffirms its commitment to helping parents in the complex task of educating their children and invites families to collaborate in expanding the Goalkeeper Parents catalog.
